What We Do

ONERio acts as the British arm of Associação UMRio/ONERio. Our rugby for development methodology is implemented by UMRio from its base in Morro do Castro favela, Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro.

Our Mission

ONERio consists of a network of British nationals who have a deep and lasting connection with the on-the-ground work of UMRio in the Morro do Castro favela. Through a variety of roles, we ensure UMRio/ONERio’s financial health and strategy remain strong, attempt to expand support networks in the United Kingdom, and ensure the well-being of all participants in the project.

ONERio’s central collective focus is distilling our visions of using rugby for development into an effective methodology that UMRio can put into practice through its work in Morro do Castro.

“ONERio is integral to the success of UMRio’s programme in Morro do Castro. Our British support network allows us to grow and thrive, expanding the horizons of our young people.”

— Robert Malengreau, Founder of Associação UMRio/ONERio.
